I would encourage clinicians to list meditation training as one is the possible treatment options for patients who are diagnosed with anxiety disorders.  According to Dr. Brown he states “I’m encouraged by the fact studies like these are now being conducted and there is more evidence that supports these mindfulness-based interventions so they can start to make their way into the standard of care treatment modalities.”

Mindfulness-based stress reduction versus Lexapro for the treatment of adults with anxiety disorders a randomized clinical trial.

There were 430 individuals in this trial from three urban academic medical centers in the United States in 208 completed the trial. The results from this randomized clinical trial comparing a standardized evidence-based mindfulness-based intervention with psychopharmacology for the treatment of anxiety disorders found that MBS are was equal to Lexapro.
